A little bit about me
I love reading. My bookshelves and Kindle account (other eBook services are available) would tell you that I read a lot of murder mysteries, cosy romance, classic literature, historical fiction, autobiographies and comedy.
I have long been a word and grammar enthusiast. After 25 years as a lawyer, and better late than never, I discovered that my love of language and keen eye for detail are just what are required to complement the creative work produced by others.
I am that person who will flick back to check a family tree, map or timeline. Serendipitously, I find that this is perfect for checking character, setting and plot consistency for authors.
I did my initial training in proofreading and editing with the Proofreading Academy (now Knowadays), gaining a Distinction. I followed this up with specific training in fiction editing with the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).
I work freelance with Proofed, editing content as well as serialised stories for audio broadcast, and with Boldwood Books, copyediting and proofreading romance, crime and historical saga novels. I also work directly with independent authors.
It’s said that there’s a novel inside each of us. One day, maybe, mine will make itself known. No sign of it yet. In the meantime, I write blog posts for both Proofed and Knowadays.
I am a member of the CIEP and abide by their Code of Practice.
Here are some of the books I have worked on for indie authors and for publishers
